The short answer is no. It's not too late for you to start a blog.

The long answer? Here's why it's not too late.

1. People are still reading blogs.

It's not a thing of the past.

I started Wholehearted Woman in the beginning of 2017.

It's December 2017 and I'm getting anywhere from 250 to 400 unique visitors a day. I know it's not as big as some blogs out there, but for someone who put in some effort here and there (who admittedly wasn't the most consistent), that's pretty good and it goes to show that people still find blogs valuable.

Other than watching Gary Vee's YouTube channel and listen to Sam Smith's Too Good For Goodbyes, I rarely ever go on YouTube much less watch videos on Facebook. I'm just not a video kind of person, and I can't imagine I'm the only one.

Will I start a YouTube channel someday? Maybe. I actually wanted to start one earlier this year, but decided it wasn't the right time.

But if you think blogs are becoming relevant, think again.

A lot of big media sites like mindbodygreen, Pure Wow, PopSugar, and Refinery29 are still pushing out written content every day. Why? Because people read them.

People like me and people like you.

2. Everyone consumes content differently.

To build on the last point, people still read. Yes, in 2018. I know, it's shocking.

We all learn in different ways. There are people who: a. listen to podcasts, read books and magazines, and/or c. watch videos. Some people just do one while others may do all three.

But there's something nice about being able to see something all written out for you and being able to skim or skip ahead.

Remember, you don't have to market to everyone, but there's definitely people out there who will resonate with and get value out of your content.

People thought books were going out of style, but guess what?

There are still book deals being made.

And magazines like Belong, The Letter Mag, and Darling.

There are still people who enjoy paper, words, and reading.

Is listening to podcasts more convenient? Yes, in fact, I love podcasts.

But let me ask you this: Why can't there be both?

Just because someone else's podcast is successful doesn't mean you have to start your own podcast. If you want to start a podcast, then do it. But if you've always wanted to have your own blog, it's time to take off those shiny object googles.

Ask yourself what you want and what works best for you. Not everyone else, but you.

The question isn't if it's too late to start a blog in 2018, it's do you want to start a blog in 2018.

And if you're wondering if you can have a successful blog even if you start in 2018, the answer is yes. You make your own success in this world.

3. The search engine isn't going anywhere.

I know voice and audio is becoming a big thing, and trust me, I'm ALLLLL about efficiency. You can ask the people in my life that and they'll tell you.

Whether it's eating at a restaurant or organizing my to do list, I'm always trying to find the best possible way to do things because y'know time is one of the most valuable assets that we have.

As Gary Vee always say, time is on your side.

You just have to be willing to do the work.

SEO works. Putting in the time works. All of these things that you're reading about work. The strategies you've heard on podcasts work.

You just have to make them work for you.

The question isn't really if blogging is still going to relevant in 2018 (because it is), the question is are you going to put in the work to make it work? Because the search engine isn't going anywhere. People still use the Google search bar.

Remember, it's all about who you're targeting.

People will read your blog if they can find your blog. If you provide value, if you show that you know what you're talking about, and if they like you.

When I first started this blog in 2017, I thought I was too late to the game.

And yes, while I was late to the blogging party, I got here when I did.

And guess what? I still managed to build a readership.

People still comment here to read even when my posts go beyond the recommended 300-600 word count, because it resonates with people. Maybe not everyone, but not everyone is my type of person and I'm totally okay with that.

I love getting emails and messages from people telling me that the way and/or what I said resonates with them. They're honestly the best, and it goes to show people still email you!

I'd love to hear from you.
